7th November: The Word Tree. Poetry reading hosted by Lia Hills and Catherine Bateson, featuring Sean Whelan. Burrinja Café, Upwey, 3-5pm.
19th November: Boroondara Literary Awards Ceremony. Presentation of the awards to the winners of the annual poetry competition judged by Lia.
October 2009
25th October: The Joys and Sorrows of Poetic Translation. Chris Wallace-Crabbe, Marietta Elliott-Kleerkoper, Matt Hetherington, Lia Hills, Jeltje and Robyn Peck, all experienced poets and translators of poetry, share the secrets of their craft. Melbourne Immigration Museum, 2-4pm.
September 2009
1st September: Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards dinner – The Beginner’s Guide to Living shortlisted.
2nd – 30th September: writer in (virtual) residence at the State Library of Victoria’s Centre for Youth Literature – guest blogger on their website, Inside a Dog.
4th September: The Heart Chamber. Overload Poetry Festival launch, 7:30pm. A reprise of the much-loved La Mama performance, The Heart Chamber.
8th September: Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards dinner – The Beginner’s Guide to Living shortlisted.
13th September: Brimbank Literary festival Awards Ceremony. Presentation of the awards to the winners of the annual poetry competition judged by Lia.
August 2009
31st August: ‘Rencontre’ with Marie Darrieussecq, along with her translator, Lia Hills, her French publisher and editor, Paul Otchakovsky-Laurent, and her Australian editor, Penny Hueston. Chaired by Marc Orlando. Alliance Française de Melbourne, 7pm. This event will take place in French.
29th August: The Art of Translation. Legendary translator Peter Bush opens our eyes to the beauty of translation as an art, in the company of French author, Marie Darrieussecq, and her translator, Lia Hills, and translators Judith Rodriquez and Elaine Lewis. Melbourne Writers Festival, 7pm
24th August: Philosophy and Me. Join Lia Hills discussing philosophy, life, death and her first novel A Beginner's Guide to Living. Melbourne Writers Festival, 10pm.
