Lia Hills is a poet, novelist and translator. Born in Wellington, New Zealand, she moved to Australia with her family at the age of fifteen. After working in a variety of jobs in Australia, from journalism to teaching, Lia spent nine years travelling and living around the world, mostly in Europe, Africa and Asia. Many of her experiences overseas, and the languages she came in contact with, inform her work, which includes poetry, articles and novels, and writing for theatre and ballet. Lia is editor and co-initiator of the poetry section of Moving Galleries, a poetry/art project on trains in Melbourne, Australia.
Recent publications include her award winning poetry collection, the possibility of flight (Interactive Press), The Beginner’s Guide to Living (Text Publishing), and a translation of Marie Darrieussecq’s acclaimed novel, Tom Is Dead (Text Publishing), from French into English.
Lia lives in the hills outside Melbourne, where she writes observed by birds.
